The book is free Public domain:> NEW CATHOLIC DICTIONARY> This is an project to put the 1910 version of the New Catholic Dictionary online. The Dictionary has thousands of short articles that clearly, simply explain aspects of Catholic life and influence. Many of the topics concern day to day things, practices and terms that are passing into obscurity, but deserve better.> 8101 entries; 1709 graphics; 918 of 1035 pages (88.69%)> made available electronically at:> from http://saints.sqpn.c…m/indexncd.htm> http://saints.sqpn.com/> url: http://saints.sqpn.com> hosted by the SQPN – Star Quest Production Network> author: Terry H Jones terry@sqpn.com> PSI Offline: About the Project > http://saints.sqpn.c…m/indexpsi.htm> Now and again I have received requests to put this web site onto a CD or to otherwise make it available offline. The people who asked wanted to use it with Catholic schools, home school kids, Confirmation classes or other situations where internet connections are slow or non-existent, or who did not want the kids roaming in the ‘net unsupervised.>> It a good idea, but I can’t just shovel the site onto a CD. It has thousands of links to other sites, the whole raft of commercial pages, and there have been times when I had a web counter. These would have caused problems if the idea was to really have it available whole and complete offline. Besides, there were always more pages to write, more names to research, more topics to catalog.>> Well, there is still much more to research, catalog and write, but I have hammered out an offline edition. My conversion software strips out the online stuff, and the final product is self-contained.>> The file is available for download here by clicking the appropriate link or CD image below. Please note the size of this thing. If you’re on a dial-up connection, it could take a while. The alternative is to order the site on CD. It’s $5 for a CD, but on the plus side I’ll send you a copy of version 1.1 when it’s ready in October, and I’ll throw in some other eBooks.

By Jackson

This dictionary Jackson Dictionary of Proper Names has just 23 chapters, one for each letter of the alphabet. In each one, it has all the proper names beginning with that letter, and its meaning.

Dictionary Of the Proper Names of the Old and New Testament Scriptures, being and Accurate and Literal Translation from the Original Tongues

“There are about 3500 words in the Bible that most of us can’t understand because their meaning is not translated into English. These are biblical names. Yet 2 Timothy 3:16 says that “all Scripture” or “every Scripture” is given by inspiration and is profitable. Therefore, we can gain profitable spiritual truth and instruction from these names, although the reason for some names is not immediately obvious. Some are much clearer, such as Timothy, meaning “honoring God.” He certainly honored God from his youth, up. This scholarly dictionary by James Beaumont Jackson was first published in 1909 after eleven years of hard work.”-Introduction. From Aaron to Zuriel, this simple yet valuable resource will inform the study of the bible.
